Former RDC Labeja arrested over wife’s murder

Mr Labeja who is currently being held at Kitgum Central Polcie Station faces accusations of murder of her wife died following a domestic brawl between them on Sunday, February 12, 2023.

KITGUM, UGANDA: The Police in Kitgum district has arrested Mr William Labeja, the former RDC for Moyo, Nebbi and Nakapiripirit district to aid in investigations into the death of his wife, Jackie Abalo, 38.

Mr Labeja who is currently being held at Kitgum Central Police Station faces accusations of murder of her wife died following a domestic brawl between them on Sunday, February 12, 2023.

According to the Aswa River Region Police spokesperson David Ongom Mudong, preliminary investigations gathered indicate that after the fight, Abalo went to her mother’s place on Monday, February 13, 2023, at about 05:00 pm and informed her that she had had a fight with her husband and was feeling severe headache.

“When Abalo’s condition worsened, her brother, Ethan Kidega rushed her to Bregmah Medical Centre, which is within Kitgum municipality for treatment but she, unfortunately, passed away on Tuesday at about 5:00 am,” Ongom said in a Wednesday police statement.

He added that the mother of the deceased later on Tuesday reported a case of murder at Kitgum Central Police Station vide reference number CRB 130/2023, and detectives from the Police Homicide department visited the scene of crime and documented it.

By press time, Police had recorded statements from the deceased’s mother and brother as the body was transferred to Kitgum General Hospital pending a postmortem.

Ongom assured that the file shall be submitted to the resident state attorney for perusal and legal guidance as soon as police investigations are fone, and the suspect shall be produced in court to answer charges of murder.

The Regional police spokesperson condemned acts of domestic violence and urged the public to embrace dialogue and seek assistance within the provisions of the law.
