JINJA: Six youths arrested over viral gay video

Their arrest follows a 17-second video clip, which has since been shared on various social media platforms, showing the four having sex.

JINJA, UGANDA: Police in Jinja City have arrested six male youths on allegations of engaging in homosexuality after their video recording went viral on social media.

Their arrest follows a 17-second video clip, which has since been shared on various social media platforms, showing the four having sex.

The video has been widely shared on WhatsApp platforms in Jinja city, prompting police to open up a general enquiry file, where concerned citizens were tasked to volunteer information pertaining to the activities of the suspects.

In the video, the faces of two young men are visible, while the other two are hidden, according to police.

Kiira Region Police Spokesperson, Mr James Mubi, said they have six men in their custody in connection to the video. “Using our intelligence, we have arrested six men from Mpumudde Ward, Northern Division in Jinja City; we found them in one room,” Mr Mubi said.

According to Mr Mubi, “three of the men serve the purpose of being women”, adding that lubricants, among other fetishes, were discovered in their room.

Mr Mubi added that the Force is looking for more suspects because they believe the racket is big.
“I appeal to the public to give us more information about other suspects. Police is playing its role, and the public should also do the same,’’ he said, adding that the suspects will be taken to Court anytime.

The youths whose identities have been withheld are currently detained at Jinja central police station. One of the suspects who spoke to us on condition of anonymity says that the videos were being captured by middlemen unknown to him, who would in turn sell them out to undisclosed pornography websites.

He further disclosed that they were being paid between Shs 500,000 and Shs 5m after each video shoot, which encouraged him to mobilize more youths to join these practices.

He however, says that, most of them have since transformed over the past three years and embraced heterosexual marriage life, but some of these videos are being leaked by a section of youths after receiving death threats from pornography website owners, who still blackmail them to shoot these videos against their free will.
