Ruparelia Group boosts Maternal Project with tricycle ambulances donation to save pregnant mothers

The $3000 TriCycle Ambulance Sudhir Donated to the Rotary Maternal Village at Speke Resort Munyonyo

The Ruparelia Group has bolstered Rotary International’s Maternal Village Ambulance Project with the donation of a fully equipped $3000 tricycle ambulances to save pregnant mothers in rural Uganda.

The donation was made as Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja flagged off the first 50 tricycle village ambulances donated by Rotary District 9214 at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

Ms Nabbanja lauded Sudhir and other Rotarians for offering voluntary services to the underprivileged in various service delivery and quality healthcare initiatives.

”In a special way, I want to thank you Rotarians for working tirelessly to change the Ugandans’ ways of living, mostly the vulnerable. Thank you so much. The President also welcomes the idea of having a well-facilitated tricycle ambulance in every village in Uganda,” Nabbanja said.

Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, the Chairman of Ruparelia Group and an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Muyenga and who was inducted an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Kiwatule last October, was at the event recognised by the Rotary Club of Uganda and Tanzania for changing people’s lives.

Dr Jennifer Jones, the Rotary International President noted that the tricycle ambulance project is a pilot project targeting Wakiso, Kabarole and Kabale. She added that the project will be rolled out in the entire country depending on the availability of resources.

According to the District Governor Rotarian Peace, the 50 tricycle ambulances will enhance timely referral of mothers and newly born babies in hard-to-reach places.

The tricycle ambulances will enhance timely referral of mothers and newly born babies in hard-to-reach places, and will be registered under the Ministry of Health for use at mainly health centre IIIs where most maternal mortality cases are reported.

It is not the first time the Ruparelia Foundation is donating towards Rotary causes.
Last year in July, Sudhir made a donation of an ambulance to the Rotary Club of Nsangi and Shs10m to go towards the maternity ward of the hospital.
He also donated Shs10m towards Rotary’s efforts for the cancer ward at Nsambya Hospital.

The focus areas of the foundation include health care, education, sports, wildlife and environment conservation, disaster relief, startup and general welfare.

To date, the Ruparelia Foundation has benefited more than 700 charitable causes in the country.
