Suspect who shot police officer dead linked to murder of Kabale University student

The suspect and boyfriend was last seen at her room on Saturday morning before he went to shoot his wife PC Komuhangi Caroline at police barracks.

KABALE, UGANDA: The Police in Kabale Municipality is investigating circumstances surrounding the death of 20-year-old Sarah Naturinda, a second-year student at Kabale University, resident of Kamukira cell, Mwanjari ward, Southern division of the municipality.

ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident in a police statement on Tuesday evening.

Maate said preliminary investigations indicate that on Tuesday, March 21, a case of missing person was filed at Kabale police station by the landlord Turyatemba Charles after Ndanganwa Naris the father to the deceased came to check on the daughter who he had taken two days with out hearing from.

It is alleged that “Mr Ndaganwa and others in the area started tracing for her until they went to her rented room, broke the padlock and on entering inside, they found the said Sarah Naturinda dead, lying on the bed facing down, tied both hands with a cloth, the mouth and nose also covered with a cloth.”

Eye witnesses say Arinaitwe Denis, the suspect and boyfriend to the deceased was last seen at Naturinda’s room on Saturday, March 19 at around 7 am moments before he went to the Police barracks where he shot his wife PC Komuhangi Caroline dead.

Maate told journalists that Police were notified, visited the scene, retrieved the deceased’s body and conveyed it to Kabale referral hospital Mortuary for postmortem Examination.

Maate explained that Denis Arinaitwe, the suspected murderer is still admitted at Kabale referral hospital under guard by Kabale police officers, after injuring himself the day he shot dead the police lady.
