IGANGA, UGANDA: The third deputy prime minister and minister without portfolio Rt. Hon. Rukia Isanga Nakadama has challenged women in Iganga district to apply technological innovations in their businesses so as to attain equal opportunities and a wider market for their commodities.
Ms Nakadama who is also Woman MP for Mayuge district was on Sunday attending belated women’s day celebrations for Iganga district as the chief guest at the function which took place at Namungalwe sub-county headquarters in Iganga district where she praised government for improving health services for mothers and bringing women closer in the field of leadership.
“We should use this opportunity today and apply technological machines in our businesses to benefit further. If you have a phone please use it to market, sell and deliver your product to those interested in it and get money. You can contact someone on phone to market your business even as small as selling silverfish,” Minister Nakadama said.
“Women are not dying like it used to be because health services have been brought closer. Women had to trek for long distances to get panadol like we could move from Mayuge to Iganga but now it’s not the case. Women have been elevated politically to 34% which is above the global target representation of 30% for women,” she added before urging women to embrace government open programs.
The minister however rallied women to prioritize education for their children in schools which are pocket friendly with them and as well condemned the growing habit of LGBTQ amidst assuring the people that president Museveni will ascent to the bill intended to fight the vice.
This year’s international women’s day theme rotated around digital innovation and technology for gender equality. The function attracted among others, the state minister for agriculture and also the MP Kigulu North Hon Bwino Fred Kyakulaga, the former minister for presidency and also the woman MP Luuka district Hon Esther Mbayo Mbulakubuza, Hon MPs, district leaders led by LCV chairperson Gabula Ezera and Iganga women council.
Hon Esther Mbayo in her speech said; “all women should be creative, active, involved in activities, participative and compliant if they are to have a precious life with equal opportunities.”
She strongly condemned homosexuality and asked parents to interact and engage their children to distance themselves from homosexuality since the vice is currently roaring in the country.
The woman MP Iganga district, Hon Kauma Sauda Alibaawo encouraged women to have self-esteem by involving in technological innovations as the theme for this year’s celebrations states. She also urged women to work hard especially by involving in agriculture to sustain their families as well as creating family love and development.
“My leadership is aiming at building women in Iganga and I call upon you to involve in a number of activities which involves technology and innovations like our theme for this year states. I urge the women of Iganga to keep working hard since we’re living in a money economy, let us get involved in agriculture and other small businesses to sustain our families and promote love and development,” Hon Kauma said.
The function started with different activities like bicycle racing which involved purely women plus other games which challenged men through depicting the hectic women’s responsibilities and a number of participants were awarded by Hon Kauma who was the chief organizer.
Hon Kauma also awarded medals to outstanding females in various fields like the best news reporter(Ms Amina Tibikoma) , best midwife, best mobilizer, best inspirer, and best teacher, among others.
