IGANGA: 28-year-old woman found dead in bed

IGANGA, UGANDA: Shock and grief on Monday engulfed residents of Buseyi central, Nakalama sub county in Iganga district after finding one of their fellow resident dead in her house on Monday morning. 

The lifeless body of Nakyeyune Sharifah, 28, was first reported by her 8 year old child who tried to wake her mother but in vain and decided to reach out to their neighbors who realized that Nakyeyune was no more.

The area LC1 chairperson Sande Julius said that he got information about the death and rushed to the scene before getting information from the deceased’s child that his mother was feeling ill last evening.

“We got information about the death of one of my residents called Nakyeyune Sharifah who died in the her bed. The boy said her mother didn’t wake up early to prepare him for school as always and he rushed to his mother’s friend Shamimu Mutesi to inform her about the matter,” Mr Sande said.

SP Diana Nandawula, the Busoga East police spokesperson confirmed the incident and said that according to preliminary findings, the deceased was feeling ill yesterday and didn’t seek medication, something which police could have been the cause of her death.

“A lady, 28, was this morning found dead in her house in Buseyi central- Iganga but our preliminary findings shows that she fell sick yesterday but didn’t seek medication, something we assume could have resulted to her death,” SP Nandawula said.

The LC3 chairperson Nakalama sub county Mr Kawanguzi Hamidu Salongo consoled the family and together with other local authorities handed the matter to Iganga police for investigations to ascertain the cause of her death.

He commended police for working with them in enforcing security, but he however urged the locals to be responsible for their security before others organs like police can intervene.

“We thank police for working with us and coming in time to handle this matter and I request all residents to always be vigilant while in your houses because we don’t know what caused the death of our sister. I urge all locals to be security conscious because we have been having terrible incidents in our sub county so I console the people of Buseyi for losing a resident,” Mr Kawanguzi said.

DailyExpress has learnt that the deceased’s husband, Kyazze John was not present since he went to Qatar, in the Middle East for work.

By press time, police had kicked off with investigations into the matter as the deceased’s body was taken to Iganga general hospital mortuary for postmortem.
