BUIKWE, UGANDA: Police in Buikwe district is holding a 19-year-old senior four student arrested on allegations of defiling an eight-year-old pupil in a sodomy act.
The atrocious incident reportedly happened on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Bunyangira Village in Kawolo Sub County, Buikwe district according to local reports.
The suspect is a student of Namataba High School currently detained at Lugazi Central Police Station while the victim is a pupil at Bibo Church of Uganda Primary School in the same district.
According to Sezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson Ms Hellen Butoto, the suspect after thorough questions by police admitted to have committed the crime but claimed that he was possessed with bad spirits, an excuse that has been met with skepticism from the community.
“This case was reported to the police by the father of the victim. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having committed the crime, but told detectives that bad spirits had possessed him,” Ms Butoto said in a Wednesday police statement.
She however assured the public that detectives are investigating the matter to establish more facts surrounding the suspect’s lifestyle.
