Northern Journalists Using Various Forms of Reporting to Promote Cultural Values

A team of journalists from Northern Uganda is currently documenting the culture through their media brand Luo Native with an intent to promote cultural storytelling

Olot Jimmy is one of the journalists based in Lira City, Northern Uganda.

LIRA, UGANDA: A group of journalists in Northern Uganda has started specializing in cultural reporting and organizing cultural events as a way of preserving and promoting our history for local tourism.

According to Mr Jimmy K Olot, who works with a media house in Lira City, investment in cultural reporting is necessary. Northern Uganda is enriched with different cultural histories, values, and norms that need to be documented and shared.

A team of journalists is currently documenting the culture through their media brand, Luo Native. The team intends to promote cultural storytelling through media such as magazines, radio production, and video formats.

Mr Olot who was speaking to DailyExpress in an exclusive interview said the initiative is in line with eradicating poverty in a smart way by generating income.

One of the journalists from the media team said that besides cultural stories, they would also focus on agricultural stories since Uganda’s main economy is agriculture-based.
