The Ismaili Civic community in Uganda has launched a week-long campaign dubbed the “Ramadan Food Drive” as part of the global Ismaili Civic engagement to donate to thousands of families relief items ahead of Eid- Al Fitr celebrations.
In the Ramadan Food Drive, the Ismaili Community will give out to the beneficiaries each a food package that will contain sugar, rice, cooking, flour, tea and beans, all of which are essential foods in a basic Ugandan homestead.
Mr Jaffer Azhar, the chairperson of Outreach Aga Khan National Council Uganda called upon well-wishers of the Charity drive to donate whatever they can towards the drive as the organization moves to reward back to those in the need within the Ugandan community.
“We are collecting used household items and clothing, foodstuffs, and other essential commodities which we shall donate to communities,” Jaffer said, before imploring several individuals who can volunteer to pick up the donations from willing givers to do so and drop the collections at Aga Khan High School, Fairway Hotel or Yujo Restaurant in Kampala.

The Ismaili Civic, according to information on its website, is a “global programme under which the Shia Ismaili Muslim community across the world has united around its centuries-old tradition of serving humanity by rendering voluntary service to improve the quality of life of the communities in which they live, regardless of faith, gender and background”.
The Community for the last couple of years has been supporting Muslims globally under its mission; ”to serve humanity and improve the quality of life of the communities in which we live”. The initiative brings together Ismailis from around the world, all working towards efforts of civic engagement and good citizenship.
Other charitable and voluntary events that the Ismaili Civic organises relate to economic development, health, education, and environmental stewardship to protect natural resources and culture to promote language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts through festivals, theatre and art exhibitions.
