OYAM, UGANDA: Mr Isha Otto Amiza, an opposition political activist who has been criticizing President Museveni for a long time, today praised him for the first time and acknowledged him as one of the liberators.
The fallen liberators that Mr. Otto Isha pointed out as great men were Gen. David Oyite Ojok and Gen. Tito Okello Lutwa as he talked about their sacrifice and struggle that led to the end of Amin’s regime.
On April 11, 1979, 44 years ago, the combined forces of Ugandans (Liberators of UNLF) led by Gen. David Oyite Ojok (RIP) and FRONASA led by H.E Yoweri Museveni joined hands with the Tanzanian armed forces to overthrow the notorious dictatorship of General Idi Amin Dada.
The liberators made a lot of sacrifices that eventually led to the return of peace at that time.
He said both President Museveni and Gen. David Ojok (RIP) and other Ugandan soldiers who participated in the struggle should be recognized and remembered by both the current government and any incoming government in the future for the history to be remembered by the generations to come.
The opposition activist Isa Otto has commended Maj. Gen. David Oyite Ojok (RIP), the former army commander in Obote’s government, and President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta for the roles they played in liberating Ugandans against the brutal leadership of the late Gen. Idi Amin Dada.
Meanwhile, in 1979, both Maj. Gen. David Oyite Ojok and President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta led a struggle against Idi Amin Dada.
While addressing the media in Lira City today, April 11, 2023, Mr. Isha Otto Amiza, the former Member of Parliament for Oyam South County, revealed to the media that President Museveni, Gen. Oyite Ojok, and Gen. Tito Okello Lutwa played a very great role during the liberation and they should not be forgotten in the history of Uganda.
For the names of such heroes to remain in the history of Uganda and the whole world, Isha Otto has appealed to H.E. President Museveni to humbly declare April 11 yearly as a national holiday/special day in the calendar of Uganda.
According to Otto, if the day is declared by the government each and every year, there shall be a celebration to honor both the fallen heroes and their legend.
He said the heroes during Amin’s regime removal are in three forms, namely, men and women in uniform who participated in the liberation struggle between 1972 and 1979.
Secondly, activists/politicians who supported or mobilized fellow Ugandans and friends towards the liberation struggle.
Lastly, innocent citizens/civilians in civil service, businessmen, farmers, academia, religious, and traditional leaders who suffered during Idi Amin’s regime.
He, however, requested the government to consider this day as a national liberation holiday compared to other public holidays just like Janani Luwum’s day, celebrated among other public holidays.
