KABALE: Suspected thief smoked out of culvert with teargas

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Police in Kabale district used teargas to smoke out a suspect thief who snatched a handbag from a passenger from a culvert on Thursday morning.

The incident happened at around 6:30 am along the Kabale – Mbarara high in Kigongi ward of Central division, Kabale municipality when the bag snatcher dived into a culvert to escape from an angry mob that was chasing him.

According to an eyewitness identified as Felix Atuhaire who is a resident of Kigongi ward, the suspect was being chased by a group of people who accused him of snatching the handbag from the passenger.

For the rescue of his life from the mob, the suspected thief jumped into the trench and moved through a culvert to hide in a septic tank.

The hiding of the suspected thief attracted the attention of the field force unit police which was under the command of the Kabale district police commander Abel Ruganza to get the suspect out of the septic tank.

By the time of filing this story, police had not made any formal comment about the matter and the suspected thief had been transported to Kabale central police station for further interrogation.
