Lira City East Division tables shs2.9b draft budget for 2023/2024 Financial Year

According to the draft budget, Finance department is the highest receiver of the allocations with shs1.3bn followed by Health with shs 279.5 million shillings

LIRA, UGANDA: Lira City East Division in Lira City has laid a draft budget of 2.291,260,000 billion shillings for the 2023-2024 financial year.

The council session was chaired by the deputy speaker Hon Hassan Moses Okeng and the draft budget was read before the council by Hon. Charles Opio Obol with a total of shs 2.9 billion.
Shs 2.6 billion is expected to be raised from revenue collection, 210m from UDDEG.

Meanwhile, sh89m will be from an unconditional grant and sh22.2m will be from a conditional grant.

However, budget allocation for programs/ budget estimates for the financial year 2023/2024 makes the finance department receive the highest allocation of  sh1.3 Billion followed by health with  shs 279.5 million

The least allocation went to physical planning and housing unit with shs 33.8 million only.

Lira City East speaker Hon. Moses Hassan Okeng  told the councillors that their budget is purely targeting service delivery for the people in Lia City’s east

He said all were done in line with the law and the standard rule of procedure rule 8 sub-section five.

Hon. Obwol Tonny councillor representing the people of Angwetangwet ward in the division council, said they are very happy with the draft budget layout because the city East division was lagging behind but now at least they are able to smile.

The mayor of Lira City East Hon. George Okello Ayoo has called upon all hon. members of the council to be united and work together for the common good of the people of Lira City East division now that the draft budget has been laid out before the council.

The theme was ‘stimulating the economy, to safeguard livelihood, jobs, businesses and industrial recovery.

Recently, the speaker of Lira City East was reportedly sick and the council meeting was pushed to a later day until last week{ Thursday] when it was conducted.
