KASESE, UGANDA: Police have confirmed the fatality of a four-year-old boy and a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier who died in a Monday road crash in Kasese District in western Uganda.
The incident according to traffic police spokesperson, ASP Faridah Nampiima happened at around 12 pm at Nyamwamba West cell, Nyamwamba Division along Nyakasanga Road.
Ms Nampiima said the driver of a speeding UPDF Toyota Land Cruiser knocked down Bira Linius, a four-year-old resident of Nyamwamba West Acholi quarters in Kasese District, as he crossed the road before the driver lost control and rammed into a nearby house.
The crash also claimed the life of an UPDF soldier identified as Pte Fred Mawadri attached to Rukoki Barracks under the mountain brigade who was seated behind the truck after he was hit by the falling house debris.
Ms Nampiima attributed the cause of the accident to overspeeding and careless crossing of the road by the juvenile and said the two bodies were conveyed to Kasese Hospital for postmortem examination as further investigations into the accident get underway.
