NAMUTUMBA: Woman, 99, commits suicide by hanging

Buladina who has been a resident of Kimanyilo village reportedly used a waistband to hang herself inside her own house.

NAMUTUMBA, UGANDA: A 99-year-old woman, Kizile Buladina has allegedly committed suicide by hanging in Namutumba district, eastern Uganda.

Buladina who has been a resident of Kimanyilo village reportedly used a waistband to hang herself inside her own house.

Her lifeless body was found by a neighbour who got concerned when he didn’t see her sitting outside the house as per her daily routine. She couldn’t move about with ease any more.

The residents forcefully opened Buladina’s house and alerted police authorities in the area who came to the scene.

Mulondo Balikudembe, a resident in the area says that Bulandina lost all her relatives, and was being catered for by well-wishers in the community, who, collectively ensured her access to meals, coupled with other general life necessities on a daily basis.

Balikudembe says that Buladina seemed happy and always exchanged pleasant smiles with whoever paid her courtesy visits, making it hard for them to suspect any mental struggles, which might have pushed her to commit suicide.

Slyvia Tebigwayo, a women councillor in Ivukula sub county says that Buladina has been an open-minded elder, who offered counsel to both the old and the young people alike with her satirical briefs from the ancient times, which always attracted many to her house.

Tebigwayo says that no matter what transpired, the residents have unanimously agreed to accord Buladina a decent burial in memory of her legacy within the community.

Busoga East police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula says that the autopsy procedures will be conducted at Ivukula health centre III mortuary and thereafter the deceased shall be handed over to the community for burial.
