Muhakanizi’s body arrives home ahead of Sunday burial

The body of the former Secretary to the Treasury Keith Muhakanizi has this morning arrived in Uganda after spending over a week in Milan, Italy where he died on April 13th.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: The body of the former Secretary to the Treasury Keith Muhakanizi has arrived in Uganda after spending over a week in Milan, Italy where he died on April 13th.

Muhakanizi, 64, who at the time of his passing was Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister succumbed to cancer-related complications, according to medical reports.

The casket containing his body arrived at Entebbe International airport aboard a Turkish Airlines at around 3:45am on Saturday morning.

The remains were received by the Gen David Muhoozi State Minister for internal affairs in company of Former Deputy Attorney General Mwesigwa Rukutana, the widow Janet Muhakanizi and a cross-section of relatives and friends.

In full honours, members of the Uganda Police Force wearing the dark ceremonial uniform wheeled the Uganda flag-draped casket carrying Muhakanizi on the Entebbe tarmac from the plane to an awaiting hearse.

At the front, one officer carried a sizeable portrait of a smiling Muhakanizi wearing a suit and a red polka dot tie.

Muhakanizi’s body will be taken to Kololo Airstrip later today for an official burial program as directed by the President last week.

After the state burial, the body will be taken to his country residence and ancestral home Kabula, Lyantonde district for a church service and burial on Sunday, April 23.
