GULU, UGANDA: Gulu Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr Cosmas James Okidi has urged the Local Council leaders in Palaro sub-county to fight wetland encroachment, and corruption and mobilize for government programs in their areas in time whenever called to do so.

Mr Okidi was addressing over 30 LCs of Palaro subcounty on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, especially on the issue of wetland encroachers.

“Let me tell you, we are not going to allow anybody to cultivate again this year in wetland areas as per the presidential directive. I know of several areas in Palrao here where several people are encroaching illegally on wetlands we are going to arrest them and deal with them legally,” Deputy RDC Okidi warned.

Okidi noted that recently his office mediated on the issue of land dispute whereby Community Land Officer (CLO), LC3 and many local leaders attended the meeting where they were set to handle all Land related disputes to permit agricultural production.

“I would like to thank the people who welcomed our mediation in the areas of Lalal village, Laban Parish, Paicho sub-county in Gulu district,” he said.

“Conclusively, as of now, let first focus on mobilizing the population towards Socio-Economic Transformation but as LCs let’s also report and fight corruption especially as far as Emyoga and PDM are concerned,” he added.
