LIRA, UGANDA: Lira City West Member of Parliament Hon Vincent Shedrick Obong has appealed to leaders at all levels to fight corruption in the Lango Sub-region to the dot.

Hon Obong was addressing the media after a fund raising ceremony held at All Saints Obanga Pe Wany Church of Uganda in Lira City on Sunday, 30th April,2023.

‘‘We must have change of attitude towards our people by not grabbing any of their property be it money or material things meant for development. By the way, where is the culture of corruption coming from In Lango and the whole country’’ Asked MP Obong

‘‘Our ancestors in Lango used to do everything on the table without hiding some and therefore the culture of some people in Lango these days engaging in broad daylight corruption is defeating my understanding as a leader,” the MP said.

He however said people should copy the lifestyle of UPC because for the UPC Party, give all and not hide others; therefore, people should follow the good example sign of the Uganda People’s Congress which means openness and not hiding anything.

“During the olden days of Lango, we lived together and shared things and ideas without selfishness as noted in some sections of some people in Lango today who are always spotted in corruption scandals,” Mr Obong said.

According to the legislator, even people who have built wall fences must know that one day the common poor can one day climb their wall fences because they are hungry to loot the things of those rich ones who have stolen in a corrupt way from them.

Obong said he doesn’t support people who grab things meant for the people or community because it hurts a lot.

He said the corrupt should therefore be ashamed publicly and punished legally to act as a lesson to some dark-hearted leaders who embezzle government money or property meant for the poor and end up developing themselves only.

At least over 20 million shillings was realized in the fundraising organized by Archdeacon Rev.Milton Jacky Otto Olima and the fundraising committee during the ceremony held at Obanga Pe Wany Church Of Uganda.

During his sermon, the Bishop of Lango Diocese Rt. Rev. Alfred Olwa preached based on the Bible quotation taken from Matthew 6:1 ‘’come let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem’’

According to Bishop Olwa, God wanted to give for a reason and advised congregations [Christians] not to show off when they are giving in the house Of God. He said our God is the developer therefore better stop resisting because we have seen many civilizations that do not respect God they have crushed.

Hon Vincent Obong Sedrick is known among top politicians and Members of Parliament in the Lango Sub-region who have always contributed highly at his personal level to the community he leads, including giving for the construction of churches among other things.
