KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Police in Kampala is actively investigating circumstances under which popular blogger Isma Olaxess, real names Ibrahim Tusubira was shot and killed in Kampala, the country’s capital on Saturday evening.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesman Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, the tragic shooting incident occurred at approximately 9:20 PM in Kyanja Central Zone, a Kampala Suburb.
“It is with deep regret that we report the unfortunate demise of Tusubira Ibrahim, also known as Isma Olaxes, popularly known as Jaja Iculi,” Owoyesigyire said in a police statement on Saturday evening.
Owoyesigyire explained Mr Tusubira Ibrahim was traveling in his motor vehicle of Reg No UBK 213 D, with his driver, Mr Waswa Mathias when the shooting happened on Saturday evening.
According to police, preliminary reports indicate that an unidentified gunman armed with an SMG opened fire on the vehicle, resulting in the fatal shooting of Tusubira Ibrahim, who was seated in the passenger seat at the time of the attack.
Owoyesigyire explained that dedicated task teams from Kira Road police are currently on the ground, working diligently to gather all available evidence and conduct thorough investigations into this heinous crime.
“We understand the concerns and anxieties arising from this incident. We urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities as we work towards resolving this case swiftly. We assure the public that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice and provide answers to this senseless act of violence,” Owoyesigyire emphasized.
By press time, the scene of crime has been cordoned off by police detectives to ensure the safety of the public and to facilitate the ongoing investigation process.
The development comes just days after he warned in one of his vlogs that there were plans to kill him.
The NRM-affiliated blogger recently appeared in a video celebrating the death of Labour State Minister Charles Okello Engola whom he accused of failing to look after his workers including his shooter and bodyguard, Private Wilson Sabiiti.
Olaxess would later in the video castigate the slain minister for causing the arrest of Ugandan Citizens and claiming the UPDF personnel captured battering Ugandans on video were from West Africa.
