KAMPALA, UGANDA: Mathias Waswa, the driver of slain Blogger Ibrahim Tusubira alias Isma Olaxess who was shot and killed in the tragic assassination on Saturday evening has revealed the gunman shot more than 8 bullets in a spree and checked to ensure the blogger was not breathing anymore before fleeing the scene.
Waswa, according to a Saturday police statement was in the company of the late Olaxess in a motor vehicle of Reg No UBK 213 D at Kyanja Central Zone, on Saturday, May 06, 2023, when the attack happened at around 9:20 pm.
Speaking to Olaxess’ friend identified as Wilson Kaaya, the driver who left wondering after none of the bullets got him revealed that the gunman was so confident and only wanted Olaxess dead.
”He shot Olaxess, came close and shot about 8 more bullets, and checked to ensure that he was not breathing anymore,” Waswa is quoted to have told Kaaya on Saturday evening, shortly after residents gathered at the scene in Kyanja.
According to preliminary reports by police, the unidentified gunman armed with an SMG opened fire on the vehicle, resulting in the fatal shooting of Tusubira Ibrahim, who was seated in the passenger seat at the time of the attack.
The KMP Deputy PRO, Luke Owoyesigyire Saturday said that detectives and scene of crime officers were already on the ground, working diligently to gather all available evidence and conduct thorough investigations into the shooting.
The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among condemned the manner in which the renowned blogger was killed and called upon the police to ensure the culprits are brought to book.
“I condemn in the strongest terms the barbaric act of taking human life in cold blood. Such actions have no place in our Nation and must not be tolerated. I call upon the police to ensure the culprits are brought to book,” Ms Among tweeted.
DailyExpress learnt that the lifeless body of slain Olaxess was taken to the city mortuary in the wee hours of Sunday morning as investigations continue.
Olaxess’ death comes just days after the State Minister for Labor, Employment and Industrial Relations, Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola, also a resident of Kyanja was shot and killed by his bodyguard, Pte Wilson Sabiiti on May 2.
