Armed men rob shs2.2m from Buliisa woman

According to the victim, the thugs tied her arms with a rope, closed her mouth and eyes with a piece of cloth, entered her room, and took off with her money.

BULIISA, UGANDA: The police in Buliisa district are investigating circumstances under armed men robbed 2.2 million shillings from a woman identified as Sarah Kayeny, a resident of Wantembo village while at her home.

It is alleged that on Sunday morning at around 1am, the yet-to-be-identified thugs went to  Kayeny’s home pretending to have gone to buy cassava flour, and ended up robbing the money from her house.

According to the victim, the thugs tied her arms with a rope, closed her mouth and eyes with a piece of cloth, entered her room, and took off with her money.

‘’They came to my home like cassava flour buyers, tied my arms with a rope, closed my eyes and mouth with a piece of cloth, entered my room, and took off with my money,’’ Kayeny narrated.

Kayeny added that the thugs were three in number, with one armed with either something like gun and panga, and dressed in a black raincoat. ‘’They were three in number, and one of them was holding something like a gun, dressed in a black raincoat,’’ she said.

The victim speaking to DailyExpress said that after struggling from where she was tied, her son managed to wake up and make an alarm that attracted neighbors for rescue.

Mr. Uyring Michael, a neighbor, explains that after hearing an alarm in the wee hours of Sunday at around 1:30 a.m., he rushed to the home of Kayeny only to find her tied with a rope and a piece of cloth on her mouth and eyes.

‘’I heard an alarm sounded by a child pleading for rescue, and when I rushed to the scene, I found Kayeny tied with a rope and a piece of cloth on the eyes and the mouth,’’ he explained.

Mr. Berochan Tito, Kayeny’s husband, who has two wives, told this publication that by the time of the incident, he was in Butiaba subcounty with his second family.

‘’I was informed by the Butiaba town council mayor that my wife had been robbed; this prompted me to rush home,’’ he explained.

Mr. Berochan asserted that he immediately reported the matter at Butiaba Police Station.

The Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, Julius Allan Hakiza, confirmed the matter and said that the case of suspected robbery was registered at Butiaba police station.

‘’The victim had kept the SACCO saving money under the bed, and it was easily accessed by the suspected armed thugs. She wasn’t raped or injured during the incident,’’ he said.

The regional police mouthpiece further said that they have commenced investigations into the matter and at time of this report, there was no suspect arrested yet on concerning the matter.
