It’s alleged that the grandfather of this child took him for treatment after developing chest complications and the nurse administered an injectable drug through the cannula but unfortunately the child collapsed and died

MBALE, UGANDA: Police in Mbale City are holding a medic and drug shop owner over causing the death of a one-and-a-half-year-old child who was injected by one of his nurses before collapsing dead on Tuesday afternoon.

Police identified the deceased toddler as Mutumba Sharif, while the suspect is Lubowa Moses, who owns the drug shop in Mukiduda, Mbale industrial division in Mbale City and the nurse, currently at large was identified as Nambafu Carol.

According to the Elgon Region Police spokesperson ASP Rogers Taitika, “It’s alleged that the grandfather of this child took him for treatment after developing chest complications and the nurse administered an injectable drug through the cannula but unfortunately the child collapsed and died.”

Mr Taitika added that the drug shop proprietor is currently detained at Mbale central police station as the search for the nurse (Nambafu Carol) continues.

He called upon the public to cooperate with the police by reporting the whereabouts of the nurse to authorities for necessary action.

“We are hunting for Carol since she escaped after the incident but her boss was arrested and detained at Mbale CPS as we continue to ensure that the nurse is apprehended and prosecuted,” Taitika added.
