RUBANDA, UGANDA: The State Minister for Economic Monitoring Beatrice Akello Akori has directed the Rubanda District Chief Administrative Officer Alex Kwizera and the Deputy District Resident Commissioner Eric Ssewandigi to investigate the alleged corruption that resulted in slow construction works for a classroom block at Nangaro Primary School in Hamurwa town council.

During the monitoring of government projects in Rubanda district on Monday, Minister Akello discovered that there was slow construction work at Nangaro Primary School that was contracted at a tune of 32 million shillings.

On interrogation by the minister, the Rubanda District engineer Mr Denis Twesigomwe said that the contractor has been given three months extension from the day when the contract duration expired in March this year to complete the construction works at the school. He revealed the delays were caused by change of contractual designs.

The LC5 Chairperson Mr Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba said that the contractor was compelled in March this year to complete the structure adding that they will not sanction the last payment before the structure is fully complete.

The delays forced Minster Akello to direct Kwizera and Ssewandigi to investigate and submit a report in a period of three months before she could task the state house anti-corruption unit to carry out further investigations.
