Mp Obong urges Govt to start vocational school after col Engola in Oyam

According to the MP, the late Mac-Odwogo was a dedicated and devoted leader who was psychologically motivated to develop our country.

LIRA, UGANDA: Lira City West Member of Parliament Hon Vincent Shedrick Obong has urged the Government to start a vocational school in the name of former State Minister of Labour Col (rtd) Charles Okello Engola in Oyam district.

Speaking to DailyExpress on Thursday evening, Hon Obong disclosed that the late Minister Engola popularly known in his area as “Mac-Odwogo” was a very good leader who was very influential both to the government and to the people of the Lango sub-region.

‘’Leadership is about influence and therefore I would like to confirm that Engola Mac-Odwogo was an influential leader In very many aspects including a good skill of political mobilization and a devoted leader really,” said Hon Obong, before asking the government to start a vocational school after his name in Awangi Village, Iceme sub-county in Oyam district to set

“I request the government of Uganda to finish his dream of building the vocational school that will employ several people and provide vocational learning opportunities for the youth in Oyam, Lango sub-region and northern Uganda as a whole,” said Hon Obong.

‘I really remember him for restoring total peace and stability in Lango sub-region and Northern Uganda during the LRA insurgency when he took command and mobilized the local militia [Amuka] from the Lango sub-region to back up the UPDF in their role of getting rid of LRA rebel fighters when he was in Opit.” he added.

According to the MP, the late Mac-Odwogo was a dedicated and devoted leader who was psychologically motivated to develop our country.

“Being our hero in the country I would like to thank the UPDF and H.E president of the Republic of Uganda in particular for according him an official burial,” he said.

Meanwhile, thousands of mourners Thursday afternoon thronged Lira Airfield to receive the body of Col. [Rtd] Charles Okello Engola and after welcoming him home, his body was later airlifted to Iceme in Oyam District.

A huge crowd who gathers from Golf Course Lira up To Lira City East Division Headquarters welcomed the helicopter carrying the casket of the late Okello Engola while weeping and mourning him.

Sam Engola the clan head of Otiko-kin clan told the mourners from the airfield today that Col Engola was killed in a bad way with 28 bullets shot by his Bodyguard Pt.sabiti Wilson.

He urged the people to stay calm as many people including those from Kampala are going to attend the burial including ministers, MPs and the people of Lango.

Government chief whip Obua Hamson congratulated the government of Uganda for recognizing the late COL RTD Macodwogo as a shield of peace and as a soldier who sacrificed himself.
