Lango regional council tables resolutions to govt over Minister Engola

Among the resolutions, the leaders want Anyeke Health Center IV upgraded to Hospital status and completing of projects started by the late minister including the construction of Agoba vocational school

OYAM, UGANDA: The Regional Council Meeting of Lango leaders in Oyam district has outlined a number of resolutions to be tabled before the government in regard to the late Minister of Labour Rtd Col Charles Okello Engola Mac-Odwogo.

The resolutions arrived at during the joint regional council meeting held in Oyam on Thursday, May 11, 2023, include; tarmacking of Iceme to Oyam town Council road, promoting the late Rtd. Col. Okello Engola to Lt. General, government to take over the deceased family, ending insecurity caused by some suspected Karamojong cattle rustlers and deploying the former Amuka militia group to fight the Suspected Karimojong cattle rustlers.

Others are; upgrading Anyeke Health Center IV to a General Hospital and completing of projects started by [RIP] Okello Engola including the construction of Agoba vocational school and another in Apac district.

The LCV Chairperson for Otuke District Francis Abola called for further training of VIP bodyguards to mitigate such murder cases, while Mr Orach Emmanuel, the Nwoya District LCV Chairperson eulogized the late Okello Engola as a dedicated servant who supported the community by creating different projects that contributed to the wealth and left a legacy that is worthy of recognition.

Sarah Awor Angweri, the Lira City female workers representative in Lira City Council advised MPs not to sleep on the resolutions made but asked them to forward the resolutions to parliament for approval and implementation.

According to Awor, several times resolutions have been made but they have never seen the impact.
‘‘I pray that Members of parliament this time forward this to parliament for approval and implementation,” she said.

The Woman MP for Oyam District, Hon Santa Alum Ogwang pledged to join hands with fellow MPs of the Lango sub-region and other leaders to ensure that the resolutions are really tabled before the parliament for effective implementation.

Speaking to DailyExpress on Thursday evening, Lira City West Member of Parliament, Hon Vincent Obong Shedrick Eyit said Okello Engola had a lot of influence on the development of Oyam, Lango sub-region and this country as a whole.

According to MP Obong, the late Mac-Odwogo was a dedicated and devoted leader who was psychologically motivated to develop our country. “Being our hero,I am very pleased with the contribution of the late Col Charles Okello Engola in ending the LRA war /insurgency in northern Uganda while commanding the Opit 501 brigade in the early 2000s.

Rtd Col Charles Okello Engola was shot dead last week on Tuesday by his bodyguard Private Wilson Sabiiti at his home in Kyanja, Kampala and will be laid to rest tomorrow Saturday 13th May 2023 at his ancestral home in Iceme Oyam district.

Preparations are in high gear from all parts of the country to attend the final send-off of the fallen hero tomorrow in Oyam as in Lira alone over 20m buses have been lined up to transport mourners to the burial site of Col RTD Okello Charles Engola Mac -Odwogo ancestral home in Oyam at Iceme.

Over 30,000 mourners are expected to attend the minister’s final send-off ceremony and burial tomorrow at Awangi village, Iceme Subcounty, in Oyam district.
