Former Minister Patrick Okumu Ringa dead

The veteran businessman and philanthropist passed away on Wednesday morning after a long illness, according to family sources.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Patrick Okumu Ringa, who served as State Minister for Public Service between 2001 to 2006, is dead.

The veteran businessman and philanthropist passed away on Wednesday morning after a long illness, according to family sources.

“He got a stroke about four years ago and has been living at his home in Naguru where he passed on this Wednesday morning,” a source within the family said in a brief statement.

The State Minister for Northern Uganda, Ms Grace Kwiyucwiny confirmed the death of the former minister and said burial arrangements were to be released later.

“Friends, be informed that Patrick Aloysius Okumu Ringa has just passed on this morning. Other arrangements will follow,” Ms Kwiyucwiny said via her official social media handles.

The former minister was a prominent businessman and majority shareholder in Afro Motors, a company that imported Peugeots.

He served as MP for Padyere County in Nebbi District between 2001 and 2006, during which he sponsored over 100 students at all levels of education in Padyere County.

He also immensely supported the Church through the construction of Nebbi Cathedral, where he regularly prayed with his family members once he was in Nebbi.
