NWSC Reappoints Eng Silver Mugisha as Managing Director

Because of the notable performance by the managing director and his management team, Kiggundu said, the Board of Directors in full compliance with Section 16 of the NWSC Act has chosen to re-appoint Mugisha for the period 2023-2028.

Eng. Silver Mugisha retains his seat as Managing Director for National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) for the next five years.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has confirmed the re-appointment of Eng. Dr Silver Mugisha as its Managing Director for another five-year- term.

The announcement was made by NWSC board chairperson, Eng. Dr Badru M. Kiggundu during a press conference held at the Cooperation’s International Resource Center in Bugolobi yesterday afternoon.

Eng Kiggundu said Mugisha’s performance as very good and therefore the board agreed to renew his contract as NWSC Boss until 2028.

“Under the leadership of the board and Managing Director, the NWSC has made significant performance strides during the last ten years (2013-2023),” Dr Kiggundu said.

“Because of the notable performance by the Managing Director and his management team, the Board of Directors of National and Sewerage Corporation, acting in full compliance with Section 16 of the NWSC Act has re-appointed Eng. Dr Silver Mugisha as the Managing Director of National Water and Sewerage Corporation for the period 2023-2028,” he added.

Eng. Kiggundu said under Mugisha’s stewardship, the number of towns under NWSC jurisdiction has increased from 23 to 268 and is expected to increase to 350 by 2028.

On the other side, the number of people served by piped water in areas under NWSC has increased from 4.5 million to 18 million and are projected to increase to 28 million by 2028.

He said the number of customer connections have increased from 296.000 to 874,000 and is expected to increase to 1,250.000 by 2028.

“Pipe network length has increased from 5,073Kms to 22.000Kms and is planned to increase to 32,000Kms by 2028; annual turnover has increased from shs155Billion to shs519Billion and is projected to increase to shs700Billion by 2028,” Dr Kiggundu said.

Speaking of his reappointment, Dr Eng Silver Mugisha who has been at the top of NWSC management since 2013 said the renewal of his contract is a vote of confidence in the utility’s management team and assured of accelerated water services in the coming five years.

“I want to thank the Board for renewing my contract, my goal is to ensure that every Uganda accesses affordable, safe, and clean water, and by 2028, this is something I see happening with the cooperation from my management team,” Eng. Mugisha noted. 

“I assure our esteemed customers and all Ugandans at large that the next 5 years will be anchored on service acceleration in all corners of Uganda, under our jurisdiction. We have an aggressive expansion agenda to ensure water and sanitation for all,” he added.

Biography 

Dr Eng Silver Mugisha holds a PhD in Engineering and Economics from Makerere University. 

He was appointed the managing director, of NWSC in August 2013, having previously served as the Chief manager in charge of Institutional Development and External Services at the Corporation where he has been since 1994.

He has worked with external organizations in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Nigeria Ethiopia among others. 

Mugisha was a board member of the Internal Water Association (IWA) since 2014 and later became the President of the Association from 2020 – to date.

He is also Chairman of, the Finance Committee of the NSSF Board, Uganda from September 2021-to date
