The deceased identified as Rogers Atuhaire is said to have turned the gun at himself in an incident that happened at Mukwasi building on Lumumba Avenue in the city centre.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: A guard attached to SGA Security Group has Thursday morning shot himself dead in Kampala in the latest wave of gun violence rocking the country’s capital.

The deceased identified as Rogers Atuhaire is said to have turned the gun at himself in an incident that happened at Mukwasi building on Lumumba Avenue in the city centre.

Preliminary reports suggest that Atuhaire’s lifeless body was found lying in a pool of blood by one Okudu David, a day guard who had arrived for duty.

Okumu said he first heard the sound of a gun being cocked, assuming it was a routine safety precaution only to find Atuhaire’s body with a bullet wound visible on his throat, which had penetrated through his head.

Police detectives arrived at the scene and retrieved the deceased’s body to the city mortuary for post-mortem as investigations kicked off to establish the motive of his self-shooting.

Initial reports further revealed that Atuhaire was working alongside Mary Namumanya on the night shift and so far six people have been arrested to assist police in the ongoing investigations.
