Man caught stealing church property survives lynching from angry mob

It is alleged, the suspect was Thursday evening found stealing church property by one of the christians who made an alarm that attracted neighbours.

KIKUUBE, UGANDA: A 30-year-old man has survived lynching by an angry mob in Kigaya cell Buhimba town council, Kikuube District after being found stealing church property at St Matayo Catholic Parish.

The suspect has been identified as One Frank, 30, a resident of Kigaya cell, Buhimba Central Ward Buhimba town council in Kikuube District.

It is alleged, the suspect was Thursday evening found stealing church property by one of the christians who made an alarm that attracted neighbours.

On arrival, the angry mob started beating him up however was rescued by police after an alert from a concerned citizen and was later rushed to Buhimba Health Centre III amid police theft charges.

Ivan Karungi the Kigaya village chairperson says Frank has been a notorious thief and this is not his first time to steal church property.

“We know him as a notorious thief because a few years back, the same person stole mouth speakers, church offertories box among other properties from the same church,” Mr Karungi said.

Karungi also asked security to make thorough investigations and punish the suspect if found guilty.
