KIRYANDONGO, UGANDA: At least 169 suspected criminals were arrested over the weekend during a joint operation carried out by security agencies in Kiryandongo district, Western Uganda.
According to the District Police Commander (DPC) ASP Dan Muhangi, they managed to arrest 114 Male suspects and 55 females, all of who were grabbed from Wonder-World Park in Kigumba Town Council, Kiryandongo district.
This publication understands that, Wonder- World is a restaurant in Kigumba Town that operates from Monday to Sunday and they are organizers of functions like “karaoke”, which according to the DPC promotes nudity as the dancers appear almost naked on stage for people to watch.
The suspects according to preliminary information had made it a habit to snatch people’s property like bags, especially for travellers who are waiting for the bus buses and taxis, phones and some other belongings forcefully.
Mr Dan Muhangi, the DPC said on Sunday 21, May, 2023, they used the procedure of calling the local leaders, especially in Kigumba Town Council where the arrest was Madeline to come to Bweyale C.O.U primary school to screen out the innocent suspects who had no criminal cases in their area and were arrested from those who are known for their Criminal actions.
He further adds that operations will still continue and investigation into the matter of those who were arrested will continue.
Among the suspects, two who were not identified were from Uganda Petroleum Institute- Kigumba (UPIK), all are students of year 2, who are supposed to be for the final Exams on Monday 22, May 2023.
The Guild President UPIK only identified as Amos appealed to the security agencies to allow his colleagues to do exams under their supervision.
The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) commander who was behind the arrest, Maj. Ngungu Wilfred said they will not sleep and rest to see that Kiryandongo district becomes a better place to stay in, by every individual.
In his remarks, the public especially in the area of jurisdiction, the LC2 Chairperson for Ward C in Kigumba Town Council, Mr Okot John Bosco appealed to the proprietor and managers of the restaurant to stop organizing such concerts that bring immorality to other people in that they may look other alternatives that bring money to their restaurant.
This publication also learned that the UPDF was brought into Kiryandongo district through the request by the community of the area especially Bweyale town council community members to the deputy inspector of police who paid a visit e the district last month.
Friday’s operation comes at a time when Kiryandongo district is battling with the issues concerning the terrorists nicknamed “Aguu” who are believed to have come from other districts like Gulu, Arua, Nebbi, South Sudan.
