Security guard shoots colleague in Kasese

Merab Kongai, 26, employed by A1 Security Company Limited found herself in a harrowing situation after a fellow security guard unleashed a gunshot at her on Monday evening.

KASESE, UGANDA: Police in Kasese are investigating circumstances under which a 26-year-old female security guard was shot and injured by a colleague over yet to be known reasons.

Merab Kongai, 26, employed by A1 Security Company Limited found herself in a harrowing situation after a fellow security guard unleashed a gunshot at her on Monday evening.

The victim who was stationed at MMP Agro Industries Limited in Kasese town alongside her trusted colleague is currently nursing wounds at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kasese town.

According to ASP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, the suspect identified as George Kubwimana, a 24-year-old individual, was promptly apprehended following the shooting incident and is currently in custody at the Kasese Central Police Station.

Mr Tumushime added that police were able to recover the rifle, along with its ammunition as investigations into establishing the motive of the shooting continues.

Under the care of Dr. Hillary Bategyekize, a dedicated and empathetic Medical Officer at St. Mary’s Hospital, Merab is currently receiving the treatment required to address the gunshot wound that pierced her right thigh, near the region of her buttocks.
