Contractor abandons Obongi seed school after pocketing sh500m

OBONGI, UGANDA: Spider Construction Company Limited, the contractor behind the construction of Gimara Seed Secondary School in Gimara Sub County, Obongi District has abandoned the site after receiving a total of 508 million shilling since February this year.

According to the Resident District Commissioner for Obongi District, Mr Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, the company was supposed to absorb about shs2 billion by mid-June 2023 and now the district leadership is in a dilemma following his abrupt disappearance.

On Wednesday, the RDC Mpimbaza, CAO Andrew Leru and Deputy DISO Paul Abok Stephen were shocked to discover that even after the groundbreaking took place two months ago the constructor has never returned to the site for any other development.

In a letter dated 25th May 2023, Mr Mpimbaza directed the CAO to explain why the project is similar to a ghost project.

DailyExpress has learnt and proven beyond doubt that the same construction company has over three contracts with other two others in the neighbouring district of Yumbe

An attempt to get a comment from the contractor was however futile by press time as his known telephone number was unavailable by the press time
