ENTEBBE, UGANDA: Police in Entebbe Municipality on Sunday arrested and detained a private security guard attached to SGA Private Security Company after he shot and injured two people during a parking scuffle at the station.
Nickon Ogwang, a guard who was deployed at Stabex Petrol Station in Garuga, along Entebbe road opened fire at Henry Buwembo Kasule, a boda boda rider and one Charles Mukooza who was at the scene after developing a misunderstanding with the rider over parking at the station.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, it is alleged that Kasule, a boda boda rider assaulted Ogwang (the guard) who was managing the parking at the fuel station prompting the latter to respond with a warning shot.
“In response to the assault, Ogwang fired a warning shot which was followed by a shot aimed at Buwembo’a right thigh. Regrettably, during the shooting incident, a stray bullet also hit Charles Mukooza, who was present at the scene, resulting in an injury to his right shoulder,” Owoyesigyire said.
The shooting attracted other cyclists who turned hostile and started assaulting Ogwang before he was rescued by the police from Entebbe policing division.
Mr Owoyesigyire further said that “the victims, Buwembo and Mukooza, were immediately provided first aid and have been taken to health facilities for further medical attention.”
“The police responded swiftly to the incident, and a team of officers visited the scene. They conducted a thorough investigation at the scene. During the police intervention, the suspect, Ogwang Nickson, was safely evacuated from the hostile mob and is currently in custody at Entebbe Police Station,” he added.
Police said Ogwang’s gun has been recovered along with three bullets as detectives continue to investigate what prompted Kasule to assault the guard who was on his duty.
