RDC Mpimbaza stops eviction of over 100 residents in Obongi

The RDC and the Woman MP were then informed by the speaker of Itula Sub-County Kivumbi Alex Lupai and an Opinion leader that One Haji Gule of Yumbe is the main person behind the eviction and also stopping them from cultivating in the area.

OBONGI, UGANDA: The Obongi Resident District Commissioner Mr Samuel Mpibaza Hashaka together with the District Woman Member of Parliament Hon Maneno Zumura have stopped the eviction of over 100 households in Kali village, Itula Sub County in Obongi District.

The action followed a letter written by the deputy resident district commissioner for Yumbe dated 8th /May/2023 stopping all agricultural activities going on in Kali Village.

The RDC and the Woman MP were then informed by the speaker of Itula Sub-County Kivumbi Alex Lupai and an Opinion leader that One Haji Gule of Yumbe is the main person behind the eviction and also stopping them from cultivating in the area.

Upon receiving the information, Mpimbaza and Zumura went to the area and confirmed the eviction prompting them to stop with the immediate effect of eviction until when the boundary between Yumbe and Obongi as pertains to the area being disputed is demarcated by the Ministry of Lands.

The two leaders arrived at the scene on Monday morning and confirmed the impending eviction which prompted immediate action and assured the residents that they won’t be evicted from their land.

Hon Zumura speaking to DailyExpress after issuing the order condemned the eviction and vowed to inform the speaker of parliament about the illegal eviction of the residents in the area.

Hon Zumura has promised to allow the matter to be solved once and for all as she will also table it in the office of the Ministry of Lands and no one will be evicted.

Meanwhile, the RDC assured that an investigation is being carried out on the allegation being tabled against one Haji Gule who by presstime was unavailable to reach for a comment since his known phone number was unavailable.
