KUMI, UGANDA: The Police in East Kyoga and Kumi district are actively looking for a police officer over an attempted murder of a businessman whom he suspected of having an extramarital affair with his wife.
The suspect identified as Police Constable Emmanuel Otyek Ikule is said to have shot and injured one George Okia, a cattle dealer in Kumi after suspecting him of having an affair with his wife.
According to Police Spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga, it is alleged that “on the fateful day, PC Otyek left his beat and slept at the brother-in-law’s place and early in the morning they went to trap the wife and the businessman, but on reaching his home, he found no man in the house.”
“They are said to have woken up early and went to the man’s house to set up a trap for the man’s wife and the alleged lover, but when they got there, they discovered no one there, so they decided to follow the suspect to the market where he deals in cattle,” Enanga added.
According to Enanga, the police officer then went to a local market where he selected a bull and convinced the seller to pick the money from his home.
“When the businessman came for his money, he turned against him and accused him of having an extramarital affair with his wife. The officer drew out his pistol and shot at the victim, but missed him narrowly. The victim escaped unhurt,” he added.
Enanga said that following the incident, the police constable went into hiding, prompting a manhunt for him to answer attempted murder charges.
“We have put up a message to all units to have him arrested for attempted murder and scandalous behaviour. These are the rogue offices were are trying to get out of the force.”
