OYAM, UGANDA: The race in the NRM party primaries for Oyam North by-elections has now taken a new twist as most candidates are now canvassing for votes in the first stage of consultation with party organs at the village level up to the district.
The eleven people who will be in the NRM primaries include; Ambassador Moto Julius Peter former Uganda’s envoy to Pretoria and UK, Rubangakene Augustine, Queen Dorothy Amolo, Ugandan born-American based investor, Samuel Engola Okello, the son to the deceased MP Col (rtd) Engola Mac-odwogo, Willy Omodo Omodo former NRM vice chairperson for Entrepreneurs league, Billie Otoo Nelson, Alfred Okello Obaro, Adonyo Tonny, Alinaitwe Henry.
On Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, Ambassador Moto organized his consultation rally at his ancestral home in Owaka village, Acaba sub-county, Oyam district in which the rally brought together over 900 people in order to tell them his motive for running in both the NRM primaries and as well in the general by-elections that will be conducted in Oyam early July 2023.
In his speech, Amb Moto promised to lobby and employ all the ten people who are contesting against him at the moment because he is sure 98% of winning the forthcoming NRM Primary elections in Oyam come rain come sunshine.
Moto said he will talk and lobby the government to really employ his brothers who are contesting against him so that they are all absorbed in the NRM government and given employment opportunities.
Among other things Ambassador Moto wants to do are wanting to be on the education committee of parliament, compensate for those whose electric poles were planted through their gardens, advocate for unity in Oyam, and among others improve the health sector in Oyam North constituency.
He however refuted the allegation by some of his fellow NRM contestants that he was terminated by H.E. the president from being an ambassador in the Uk.
During the consultative meeting, most of the LC one and two chairpeople, the NRM village, parish, sub-county and district level leadership were engaged in a consultative meeting with top Oyam district NRM officials like NRM chairperson Vice-chairperson, GISO among others were also engaged in educating the invited people to know the nature of NRM primaries as the set date for Electoral commission official voting draws nearer.
However, Oyam NRM Chairperson, Mr Ongela Jasper and his vice Mr Martin assured the public that very soon, the NRM electoral chairperson, Tanga Odoi will be in Oyam district, therefore, all the NRM organs from village to district level totalling over 1000 should prepare to vote during the NRM primaries to elect one person among the 11 aspirants to be the flag bearer.
The vice chairperson assured the gathered voters who turned up for the consultation rally organized by Ambassador Pete Moto that there are already candidates for NUP, FDC, and UPC, among others who will be facing the candidate chosen as a flag bearer of the NRM.
However, according to a one-on-one interview with 43 people who were asked by our reporter from different sub-counties and town councils in the district on who shall win the NRM party Primaries election, many said there is already a tied race among Five people.
The five people who are likely to have the golden opportunity of scooping more votes for NRM primaries and they are; Ambassador Julius Peter Moto, Junior Samuel Engola, Rubangakene Augustine, Queen Dorothy Amolo and Mr Omodo Omodo.
Acaba Sub County alone has four people who are contesting under NRM primaries to compete for the party flag bearer.
