NWOYA, UGANDA: Gen Salim Saleh, the Chief Operation Wealth Creation Coordinator has challenged all Universities in Uganda to ensure they become authorities on all matters related to Uganda research-wise other than allowing foreign – Universities to have more data than them.

“We can’t have foreign universities having authority on our issues. For instance, I was shocked to get in-depth information from Tufts University in America about the Karamoja region, and I wondered where our universities were?’’ Gen Saleh observed.

The OWC coordinator made the statement while meeting Gulu University delegation led by its Vice-Chancellor Professor George Openjuru Ladaah from Purongo in Nwoya District to brief him on the status of the OWC Secretariat he establishes at Gulu University in 2021.

Prof. Openjuru told the Chief OWC Coordinator that Gulu University is committed to having more research towards community transformation and to act as a one-stop centre for documented research work in Northern Uganda.

“We hope to have a structured relationship soon with OWC so that we can automatically become partners with many institutions to support us in the task of establishing Gulu University as a one-stop center for vital information regarding the region’’

The Operation Wealth Creation Chief between 2021 and 2022 held high-level Government meetings at Gulu University, where he seconded Professor Openjuru George Ladaah the Gulu University Vice-Chancellor as the coordinator of the OWC secretariat for Northern Uganda.

Gen Salim Saleh welcomed the status brief and promised to continue working with Gulu University, especially on areas of strategic research that can impact people’s lives.

They were also accompanied by Mr. Odong Stephen Latek, the Amuru Resident District Commissioner. Latek was RDC of Gulu when the OWC secretariat at the university was being set.
