KABALE, UGANDA: The Kabale Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Mr Andrew Ronald Bakak has given a two weeks ultimatum to 68 Parish chiefs and chairpersons to refund money that they allegedly solicited to register the Parish Development Model beneficiaries or risk arrest.

Mr Bakak made the directive on Thursday afternoon during a sensitization meeting for Parish chiefs and chairpersons held at Kabale District Council hall in Kabale Municipality.

According to the Deputy RDC, a total of 34 Parish chairpersons and 34 chiefs have been reported to his office to have solicited bribes ranging from 5000 shillings to 20,000 shillings from the PDM beneficiaries for registration.

Last week, Mr Bakak ordered the arrest of the Musamba Parish Chairperson Charles Monday for allegedly soliciting bribes from over 70 people to register them as PDM beneficiaries.

Now, in an update today, Bakak said that the suspected parish chiefs and chairperson are supposed to refund money from the beneficiaries in a period of two weeks or risk arrest and prosecution.

When asked why the suspects have not been arrested, Bakak said that they were given a benefit of doubt since they had been sensitized about the operation of the program.

The Kabale District Production and Marketing Officer Beda Mwebesa and the District Chief Administrative Officer Fred Kalyesubula said that registering and accessing PDM money by selected beneficiaries is free.
