Thugs raid offices at Land Ministry, steal computers, office records

Minister Mayanja said despite the raid, the thugs were not able to access the server room where land titles are kept.

LUWERO, UGANDA: The Police in Savannah Region are investigating how unknown thugs broke into the Ministry of Lands Zonal Offices at Bukalasa and took off with government equipment including computers and some critical office records.

According to the Minister of State for Lands, Hon Sam Mayanja, the unknown thugs raided the offices in the late night of Tuesday, June 2023 with a yet-to-be-known motive and left searched almost every locker before taking off with the equipment at their disposal.

”A number of inside offices were broken into last night (20th June 2023) and Government equipment including a printer, some computers and paper records taken,” says Minister Mayanja.

The Minister added that fortunately, the thugs were not able to access the server room where land titles are kept.

”The server room was not accessed. The backup and data recovery site is intact and has not been tampered with. The Server has since been shut down, pending completion of the investigation and authorization for its full restoration of services,” he said.

Mr Mayanja further noted the Uganda Police Force was immediately informed of this unfortunate invasion and Bukalasa offices have since been cordoned off by the Law Enforcement Agencies as investigations are carried out by Wobulenzi and Luwero Police.

”The public is requested to remain calm as investigations are carried out,” he affirmed.
