Prof Pelucy Kabahuma named new Vice Chancellor of Uganda Pentecostal University

Prior to her appointment, Prof Kabahuma served at the same institution deputising her late husband as Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of administration a position she has held since 2019.

FORT PORTAL, UGANDA: Prof Pelucy Kabahuma Ntambirweki has been appointed the new Vice Chancellor of Uganda Pentecostal University. She replaces her late husband and founder of the University, Prof John Ntambirweki who died in April this year.

Prof Kabahuma was unveiled on Thursday by Dr Nathan Karema the Chairperson University Council, at the University Main Campus in Mucwa, Fort Portal City in western Uganda.

“The Board of Directors and the University Council of the Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU) are placed to announce the appointment of Prof Mrs Pelucy Kabahuma Ntambirweki to the position of Vice Chancellor of UPU, with effect from June 13, 2023,” the statement by the University Governing Council read in part.

Dr Karema in a congratulatory message to the new VC noted that Kabahuma’s appointment was on merit as she possesses the required qualifications and experience, whose exceptional dedication to the growth and transformation of the University inspired members of the Council to approve her for the position.

“The Council is excited about Prof. Pelucy Ntambirweki’s appointment as the Vice Chancellor. Her recruitment went through a thorough analysis by the UPU Board which is chaired by Retired Justice Dr. Tabaro. We are confident that her institutional knowledge of UPU and leadership expertise as an international civil servant will be instrumental in UPU’s development. UPU is looking forward to her tenure, which we believe will propel UPU to greater heights.”

Profile Background

Prof Kabahuma holds a Master’s Degree in Education Management from Queens University Canada, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Makerere University, a Diploma in Education from Makerere University, and other short courses.

Prior to her appointment, Prof Kabahuma was serving at the same institution deputising her late husband as Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of administration a position she has held since 2019.

She has also worked as the Executive Director of Uganda Women Support Organization-UWESO, Deputy Representative of UNICEF in South Sudan, and as a consultant at the World Bank.

Commenting on her appointment and promotion, Prof Kabahuma said: “I am honoured to be given this great opportunity to serve the mighty Uganda Pentecostal University. I thank God for this opportunity.”

“In this opportunity, I will draw on all the great lessons that I learnt from stewardship by the best – the late Vice Chancellor, who was a great administrator and one of the best legal scholars of our times. This experience combined with my skills and competencies as well as my 30-year management of teams and programmes will be vital in this position,” she added.

As the new Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kabahuma will be responsible for the academic, administrative, and financial affairs of the University and in the absence of the Chancellor, presides at ceremonial assemblies of the University and confer degrees and other academic titles.

About the University

Uganda Pentecostal University is a private university licensed to operate by the National Council of Higher Education. Founded in February 2001 as a private tertiary education Institution known as the Grotius School of Law Professional Studies offering studies in law, UPU has since evolved into a multi-disciplinary institution with five (5) faculties: Law, Arts & Social Sciences, Information Technology, Business Administration and Journalism & Communication.

UPU has its main campus located at Muchwa in Fort Portal. The University also operates a liaison Centre in Wakaliga, Rubaga Division Kampala.
