UPDF officer on the run after setting house on fire with four occupants

The group under the officer’s command set ablaze houses on the disputed land where properties got burnt and stole 3 goats and phones in the process.

LUWERo, UGANDA: Police in Luwero District, central Uganda are actively hunting for a UPDF officer who allegedly set on fire a house with four occupants accusing them of tress passing on the land.

The runaway UPDF officer has been identified as Alex Mutyaba who was armed with a submachine gun “SMG”, pistol and a panga at the time when he committed the unlawful act.

Police identified the victims as; Lubega Muhammad, Kyagera Daniel, Kiviri Joseph and Kato Aminsi who were all evacuated from the house fire and rushed to Luwero General Hospital for treatment and management.

According to Acting Savannah Regional Police Sokepseron, Asp Samuel TwineAmazima, preliminary information indicates that a group of thugs led by Mutyaba claiming to be a UPDF officer and armed SMG, pistol and pangas went to the farm of Luwero district Kadhi Sheikh Mulindwa and started beating up workers at the farm injuring them seriously claiming that they are trespassers on the land.

As if this was not enough, the group proceeded to set ablaze houses where properties got burnt and stole 3 goats and phones in the process.

Upon getting information from Lubega Muhammad who is a farm manager, police immediately responded and visited the scene of the crime and documented it, a search was conducted.

“Statements were recorded from relevant witnesses, and clothes suspected to be for assailants were recovered and exhibited by a team of investigators and Socco,” said TwineAmazima.

He added that seven suspects have so far been arrested to help in investigations and a case of aggravated robbery and arson has been opened against them.
