IGANGA, UGANDA: The Iganga District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon Sauda Kauma Alibaawo on Tuesday donated Eid food package to prisoners at the Iganga prison facility in Nabidogha, Iganga Municipality.
The packages which included ten cartons of soda, 100kg of rice and 10 litres of cooking oil were delivered yesterday evening by the MP’s political assistant Mr Sulaiman Hussein Kadugala.
In her message to the prisoners, Hon Alibaawo said that she came up with the idea to incorporate all prisoners on the feasting day of Eid-Ul-Adha, the day when all Muslims should prioritize sacrificing to those in need (Sadaq).
“We have come up with this idea to support our brothers and sisters in prison such that they can also celebrate this day of Eid-Al-Adha because it’s a joyful day which involves slaughtering animals,” Hon Alibaawo said in her message delivered by Mr Kadugala.
She added that; “prisoners find it difficult to celebrate Eid-Al-Adha and because they cannot access the best meal on such a day, I have decided to support them with rice, cooking oil and cartons of soda.” She said amidst promising to provide more especially meat.
On behalf of the prisoners, Sheikh Abdulhakim Mulondo of Hamidah mosque, who leads Muslim prisoners in prayers at the prison facility appreciated the woman MP for delivering the Eid package to the prisoners saying that there is still a need for more.
“We thank Hon Alibaawo for the Sadaq to our brothers and sisters who are in prison. The condition is not yet okay and there is more need to support them with more foodstuffs such that they also feel the day of Eid-Al-Adha,” Sheikh Mulondo said before adding that it’s a good spirit exhibited by the MP during the Eid season.
This Eid-Al-Adha comes from the historic event when the prophet Abraham was commanded by God, in form of a dream vision to sacrifice his son, Ismael. But while he was in the act of sacrificing his son, God sent the angel Gabriel with a huge ram. Gabriel informed that his dream vision was fulfilled and instructed him to sacrifice the ram as a ransom for his son.
Eid-Al-Adha is of special importance as the day of sacrifice marks the climax of Hajj or pilgrimage, which is the fifth pillar of Islam.
Every year’s pilgrimage to Makkah and Madinah in Saudi Arabia is an obligation only for believers who are physically and financially able to perform it.
