IGANGA, UGANDA: Shock gripped residents of Lugobango village, Nawaningi sub-county in Iganga district on Saturday when they recovered a decomposing body of a yet to be identified female adult.

The body was found in a pool of water in Bunilira swamp commonly referred to as Lumbuye at Lugobango village which separates Iganga district from Luuka district.

The locals led by their village chairperson Mr. Balilaine Samuel says the information of a decomposing body was received in the morning on Saturday at around 8am from locals who had moved to the swamp and they alerted authorities to have the body retrieved.

“Early in the morning at around 8am, I got information from locals about the body which was in the swamp and I called chairperson LC3 about the matter, who later informed police. The body appears to be of a female adult and we’re here at the scene trying to remove the body from water but we haven’t identified her and where she came from,” Mr. Balilaine said.

Speaking to DailyExpress, the chairperson LC3 Nawaningi sub-county, Mr. Ndhaye Yakubu said they had not identified the person but managed to inform police about the incident. He called upon anyone with a missing person to get in touch with police and establish if the deceased is known in the area.

“This morning at around 8am, I received a disturbing call from my chairperson LC1 of Lugobango village Mr. Balilaine Samuel about a decomposing body of an unidentified person which was discovered in the swamp of Bunilira. I called police and they swiftly responded and the body was retrieved from water by police,” Mr. Ndhaye said before calling upon the general public to work with authorities in identifying the deceased.
