Museveni to campaign for NRM’s Engola Junior in Oyam today

OYAM, UGANDA: President Yoweri Museveni, the National Chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) is today (Tuesday) expected in Oyam to campaign for the party candidate ahead of the by-elections for Oyam North county.

According to the NRM Secretary General Mr Richard Todwong, Mr Museveni is expected to visit the ancestral home of the late minister Rtd Col. Charles Okello Engola Mac-Odwogo to lay a wreath and later address a political rally in support for NRM flag bearer Mr Samuel Engola Junior at Iceme and Otwal in Oyam.

Todwong revealed this on Sunday that after holding a rally that attracted over 300 Boda Boda members at Oyam Town Council in Oyam district headquarters.

Todwong said Museveni is expected to talk about wealth creation, and socio-economic transformation and will as well campaign for the NRM flag bearer Okello Samuel Junior Engola and asked voters in Oyam North to turn up massively for the president’s rally.

The NRM SG called upon Boda Boda riders in Oyam North to have a good saving culture instead of wasting money on a luxurious lifestyle and asked them to vote for the NRM flag bearer Samuel Engola come Thursday, July 6, if they are to achieve government programs benefits in Oyam.

He assured the gathering that Okello Samuel Engola, the NRM flag bearer will hopefully win the bye-election of Oyam North that Will be conducted on the 6th of July,2023.

Mr Todwong was accompanied by Emmanuel Dombo the party spokesperson, Tanga Odoi the NRM Electoral Chairperson, and Willy Omodo Omodo former NRM contestant among others.

A Boda Boda rider whose name he preferred to be anonymous said Engola Junior Samuel should be voted on the 6th, of July 2023 to continue with the legacy of his father.

On Monday 3rd July 2023, several NRM bigwigs like Tony Ayoo the Kwania county MP, NRM Secretary General RT Hon Richard Todwong, Government chief whip Denis Hamson Obua, Olobo James (Kioga North County), Judith Alyek, Chairperson Lango Parliamentary group, MP Andrew Ojok Olanya (Omoro county), ONC team Kyambogo, Tanga Odoi, Dombo Emmanuel the NRM publicity among others.

Four candidates are contesting to replace slain minister Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola. These include his son Samuel Engola Junior, Daniel Okello of the National Unity Platform, Dr Eunice Apio Otuko of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), and Freddy Newton Okello of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).

The Electoral Commission has urged Oyam voters “to remain peaceful and calm all through the electoral process” as the Thursday July 6 elections get closer.
