We are determined to win Oyam North seat, says UPC President Akena

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) President Mr Akena Jimmy Michael says all is set for his party to win the forthcoming bye-election of Oyam North as several bigwigs throw their weight in last-minute support for the flag bearer Dr Apio Otuku.

OYAM, UGANDA: The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) President Mr Akena Jimmy Michael says all is set for his party to win the forthcoming bye-election of Oyam North as several bigwigs throw their weight in last-minute support for the flag bearer Dr Apio Eunice Otuku.

Mr Akena speaking on Tuesday assured the voters in Oyam North that he has pitched camp in Oyam until the election results are declared in his presence.

The former presidential candidate told the over 1000 people who gathered to attend his address and the party candidate that as UPC this time round, the seat will be theirs and they are waiting only to vote on the 6th of July 2023 to massively win the election based on their agenda which are so clear.

“l assure you there will be no rigging of the election In Oyam North and anyone planning to do so should forget and relax that UPC will be winning this election by protecting the votes right from all the polling stations to the tallying room,” said Akena.

Dr Apio Eunice Otuku, the UPC Party candidate addressing the political gathering promised to work very hard to raise the standards of health centres, good and better service delivery in terms of infrastructure development.

According to her, the micro economy and the infrastructural issue are important bearing in mind that all the stakeholders will be involved in supporting and implementing her manifesto and agenda. She added that in the next 100 days, if she wins the election, she will focus mainly on education among others.

Acaba sub-county, Otwal, Ngai, and Oyam town council are among the sub-county that the Alebtong LCV chairman DK Odongo disclosed to the press in his briefing that will have the highest numbers of voters for UPC on the 6th July 2023.

Meanwhile, Okello George Ayoo, the Lira East Division Mayor could not hide his happiness when he said that he is already jogging for an early lead and celebrations because he is smelling a big margin of UPC’s Apio Otuku winning in the final results.

Kwania woman MP Hon Auma Kenny Lapat told DailyExpress that she is now preparing to welcome Otuko as the Next MP of Oyam North under UPC who Will join the 11th parliament soon.

MP Akora Maxwell of Apac who was in the final canvassing of votes for Apio said he was full of joy saying that they are fully on the ground to do all it takes to protect their votes until the last minute of the declaration of election results.

Akora added that he is determined that the election shall be won by UPC party this time and called upon the people of Oyam North to turn up in big numbers and vote early enough and guard their vote s jealousy and peacefully.

The Oyam North County MP position fell vacant when the late Minister Rtd Col Charles Engola Mac-Odwogo was gunned down by his private bodyguard Pte Sabiti Wilson on May 2nd, 2023 at his residence in Kyanja, a Kampala urban suburb.

Four candidates are contesting for the seat including NRM’s Samuel Engola Junior, Daniel Okello of the National Unity Platform, Dr Eunice Apio Otuko (UPC), and Freddy Newton Okello of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
