OYAM, UGANDA: Police in North Kyoga Region are investigating circumstances under which Simon Peter Oceng, a journalist based at Shine FM radio in Oyam Town Council was allegedly assaulted by NRM activists after hosting a political talk show.

Oceng popular as Rev Oceng Amolo was reportedly assaulted on Tuesday evening by Stalon Olong, Oyam-based businessman and a staunch NRM Supporter accusing him of playing a campaign song for Dr Eunice Apio Otuku, a UPC candidate during the NRM talk show, a claimed Olong has since denied.

North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson SP Jimmy Patrick Okema told DailyExpress that a case of assault had been registered at Shine FM, a radio station based in Oyam after the moderator of the talkshow reported being attacked and beaten by individuals after hosting the program on Tuesday evening.

”Unfortunately, the moderator who was supposed to host the NRM team that had booked the show started playing games and refused them to join the studio. And as if that was not enough, he also went ahead and put the phone which was to receive calls from the listeners in a flight mode and that gave a lot of queries and questions to the team who were there,” said SP Okema.

“But all in all, we have left this for investigation as I speak now. that matter is closely being investigated,” he added.
