KAMPALA, UGANDA: Kyengera Town Council Mayor Sir Mathias Walukagga (NUP) has passed the mature entry examinations at the Islamic University in Uganda, Kibuli in Kampala, DailyExpress has learnt.

In an interview with Bukedde TV, Walukagga scoffed at people who always criticised him over failure to complete his studies and poor command of the English language.

The BizibuFamily hit-maker revealed that he plans to enrol for a course in Public Relations at another university come, August 2023 when the new academic year opens.

“I wanted to carry on my studies here at IUIU but they don’t have that course. The good thing is that my score allows me into any other university in Uganda, so I am consulting with my team on which university to choose,” he said.

When asked what drove him to go back to school, Walukagga outlined two reasons, the first being that he wants to be counted among the educated people.

“I am not studying to get a job; I am already a successful politician and a musician. But I want to be able to pull out my papers if someone asks what I studied.”

Second, the singer says this is part of his broader political ambitions and sees himself in the near future serving in a high post in Government which would require higher credentials than he currently possesses.

“Any time, Kyagulanyi will take this nation. What if he comes to me and offers me a cabinet position as Minister of Local Government? I need to be ready for that. This is me now preparing myself for that kind of opportunity.”

Walukagga was in 2021 elected as the Mayor of Kyengera on the opposition National Unity Platform ticket and will serve his term until 2026.
