FORT PORTAL, UGANDA: Parental Care Primary and Nursery School Bushenyi are winners of the 2023 Inter-Schools Poetry and Debate Competitions.
The school based in Western Uganda emerged champions in the inter-school competitions held on Saturday at St Leo’s Kyegobe High School in Fort Portal City.
The debate competition was organised by Rwenzori Debate Forum, together with Kawanda Agricultural Research Institute under the theme; ‘Food Insecurity, Ending Hunger and Poverty In Uganda’.
Parental Care Bushenyi edged Green Circle Primary School in the finale to lift the trophy to affirm its position as master of art in the debate championships.

Speaking after Saturday’s victory, Mr Bright Beyongyera, a trainer and a teacher at Parental Care revealed how they took a team of 22 pupils to compete with over 10 schools in poetry, debate, and public speaking.
“This victory indicates that our school is doing a great job at not only educating learners but also equipping them with other skills that will make them responsible citizens in future, who can debate for the country in parliament,” Mr Beyongyera remarked.
He added; “It’s a moment of pomp and glamour for us as Parental Care. Year in and Year out our performance has been on top notch. I want to assure our dear parents that their children are in safe hands and they should bring more students because we do what we know best to make our learners capable leaders of tomorrow and unique citizens,”
The latest victory in public speaking comes just a few months after the school in May this year won the 2023 National Junior Speech and Debate Competition 2023 organized at Parliament in Kampala.
Parental Care Nursery & Primary School Bushenyi is not only good at debating but also known popularly for its academic prowess demonstrated by its highest number of first grades over the last couple of years.
