LIRA, UGANDA: The Lira Resident City Commissioner Mr Lawrence Emmy Egole has ordered the Investigations Directorate of Police in Lira City to investigate allegations of misuse of Parish Development model (PDM) funds in Lira City West Division.

In a press briefing held at his office on Thursday, July, 13, RCC Egole said his office has identified a mess in one of the SAACO groups in Lira City’s west division just two weeks after the program was launched in the northern district of Lira.

The RCC however did not disclose the SACCO groups implicated in the mess that this may jeopardize the police investigations but said the CID Lira city has already launched a probe into the matter and immediately after the investigation is done, his office will take appropriate action.

“Just two weeks after launching the parish development model program, we have identified a mess in one of the SACCO groups in Lira City west division and I have instructed the OC CID to investigate the matter,” Mr Egole said.

He added that much as they have disbursed the money to 48 SACCOs with a total of over 200 beneficiaries in the city, they have started monitoring the project and it is so far so good going on well as per the period covered.

Mr Egole further lamented that the 3.3 billion that the city has received with each beneficiary receiving one million shillings it is on record that a large number of people will benefit.

“So far so good however with only two weeks down the road it has been so hard to meet and access thousands of people who have received the money in the city’’ he said, adding; “In fact, some of the SACCO groups in lira have received earlier /before a total of 67 million while others have received 50 million.”

The RCC told this reporter that he is hopeful the people who have received the money will use it properly and return the money since the president has given them a grace period of about two years, before issuing a warning to anyone who thinks the money is taken for granted not temper since they will be arresting the culprits and offenders of PDM and Emyoga altogether.
