Woman, 26, arrested over torture of co-wife in Hoima

The territorial police of Hoima have arrested one Joan Rose Nyangoma, a 26-year-old businesswoman on allegations of torturing her co-wife in a viral video incident

HOIMA, UGANDA: The territorial police of Hoima have arrested one Joan Rose Nyangoma, a 26-year-old businesswoman on allegations of torturing her co-wife in a viral video incident

The video which went viral on social media on the 9th of this month showed the two women fighting and one pulling the other’s hair.

Mr Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, revealed that after watching the video, police picked up interest and started investigations which led to the arrest of the suspect.

According to Hakiza, preliminary investigations reveal that the incident happened in Kyesiga, Hoima City after Nyangoma realized that the husband left her for the victim.

“Henry Ajuna, who was Nyangoma’s husband, had left her and got a new wife in Kyesiga, but when she understood where the two stayed, Nyangoma followed them and attacked the victim, but Ajuna took off,” Hakiza stated.

He added that the suspect in now in police custody and will face charges of torture and assault with intent to cause bodily harm.

Hakiza also condemned the act of torture, saying in the video they were using vulgar language and that police are hunting for the person who recorded the videos (who is still at large) to make a statement.
