Man, 22, arrested over stealing 9 sheep in Obongi

A 22-year-old male resident of Dilokata village in Ewafa parish, in Ewafa sub-county, Obongi district has been arrested after he was caught stealing at least nine big sheep belonging to a 99-year-old man.

OBONGI, UGANDA: A 22-year-old male resident of Dilokata village in Ewafa parish, in Ewafa sub-county, Obongi district has been arrested after he was caught stealing at least nine big sheep belonging to a 99-year-old man.

Drani Yasin,22, who was on several occasions suspected to be a super thief was apprehended by the angry locals on Saturday narrowly survived lynching as he pleaded for forgiveness.

His 40th day came when he crossed to Malanga village to steal the nine sheep where he was arrested with the exhibits.

Drani is currently detained at Obongi Central Police Station as a police file on charges of theft of animals gets underway with investigations.

Speaking to DailyExpress about the unfortunate incident, the RDC Obongi district Mr Mpimbaza Samuel Hashaka warned the youth to engage in agricultural activities and join Governmt’s Parish Development Modal Programme, or else engage in bricklaying and engage in small income generation activities instead of stealing.

Hashaka said the police will be still investigating the matter and after the conclusion, Dran will be arranged before the court to answer the charges levied on him

“Thanks to the community and the police for the vigilance and quick action,” Hasahaka said

One of the residents living in Ewafa village, only identified as Sarah told this publication that it has become the character of Drain Yasin to steal things from the elderly in the area and it seems his days were numbered.
